The Perfect Wedding Day
Wedding day perfection is overrated.
Trust me, I know firsthand that you want your wedding day to be absolute perfection. We all spend years dreaming up the perfect wedding day, down to every last detail. But just know that no matter how much of a planner you are, or how hard you try for it to be perfect, your wedding day is NOT going to be perfect. And that is OKAY!
It doesn’t matter what happens. Just soak in and enjoy every moment and be too happy to care. Things will go wrong. Things may rip or get muddy or get messy. You may forget something. But that’s ok. The thing that matters most, is that you are marrying your person and the love of your life. The day you have waited for, that happiest day has finally arrived!
Lysa Terkeurst says it best, “If you bring your happy, your day will be beautiful”.
At my own wedding, my one rule was no denim. We were having a summer casual wedding – think sun dresses, khakis, polos, no suits. But at my reception, I noticed that my husband’s uncle wore jeans. And even worse, my photographer had changed from her dress into denim shorts and a T shirt. I know what you must be thinking, and I WILL NEVER DO THAT EVER! Even though it’s something that I’ll never forget, here we are 7 years later, did it ruin my wedding day? Absolutely not.
Other weddings that I have had the honor to be a part of, have been a mud show with the bride’s dress covered in mud.
The guests were wearing mud boots and we even had to clean off the dance floor often. Another wedding I worked, the ceremony started an hour late because a bridesmaid couldn’t zip her dress. She ordered her dress too small, in hopes of losing weight before the big day (highly don’t recommend that). So she had to be sewn into her dress since it wouldn’t zip.
Then of course you have all the sweet brides of 2020 and 2021. They have had to plan, plan, and replan their wedding days, probably thinking that NOTHING would go right. But whether you end up having an elopement or a big wedding on a different day- it’ll be perfect in the most imperfect way.
I can promise you, despite those mishaps the weddings were not ruined. There may have been stress in the moment but by the end of the day, it was just something to laugh about. The love and celebration is what will always be remembered. So remember, leave perfection at the rehearsal dinner and bring nothing but your happiness to the wedding day. Do this and it will be nothing short of beautiful.
