Hey friends! I figured I’d take a small step back today and share a little bit with you all about who I am!! As with every aspect of my business, for me, this is more about the relationship and the people than me just showing up to capture your wedding! I want you to be able to truly get to know me and who I am, so that you feel you can relate to the person who is helping you remember your wedding day for a lifetime!! Before we dive in, let’s cover the basics! If you’re brand new around here, I’m Alexa, and I am the owner and main photographer for a wedding photography company based in the Lakes Region in New Hampshire- but I travel all over New Hampshire and New England getting to photograph the sweetest couples ever! Now, here are 4 things about me!
I started my business after college graduation with a plan to be a speech pathologist. But after not getting into graduate school and having a quarter-life crisis, I decided to follow in the footsteps of 4 generations before me and start my own business. My focus was on weddings because I love love and had just gotten married to my husband, Marc. Shooting my first wedding in July of 2015 with my friend Stefan for a family friend, and as they say, the rest is history! I have no been working this business for 10 years and have shot over 100 weddings! I can’t believe where I am now!
We met in high school, but not at the high school! Our parents had grown up together and lived close by. My dad had a mini farm and at the time had piglets. Marc and his mom came to see the baby pigs, and when I saw Marc I went over to pretend to be interested in the pigs. We never spoke that day but months later he messaged me on Facebook, and the rest is history. Whenever asked how we met, we always say “we met in the pig pen”. We were just 16 and 17 when we met (#babies!). As soon as we started spending time together, we truly became inseparable… but were off and on.
It wasn’t until I decided to go to North Carolina for college that Marc decided he was ready to be serious. We did long distance for 2.5 years while I went to college in NC. He proposed after my junior year and I spend my senior year planning our wedding from states away. It was such a special season… we can’t believe it was already almost 13 years ago that we became official and we’ve been married for 10 years this June! Time has flown!
When I have downtime, which is rare now that we have two young kids and I run two businesses, you can usually find me hiking the mountains of NH or reading! I have quickly turned back into a reader after taking many years off and am cruising through books. My ideal night would include curling up with a good book, some good take out food, and a board game. (Bonus points if we have a new episode of Married at First Sight or Love is Blind!)
There are three things that come to mind when I think about what I love – hot air balloons, sunflowers, and maple syrup. At the young age of 6 months old, I was brought to my first hot air balloon rally in Pittsfield, NH. Ever since I’ve been called “the balloon baby”. I have only missed 3 years of the festival in my life due to out of state weddings. Marc even proposed to me in a hot air balloon. Sunflowers are my favorite flower. They bring me so much joy and we had them for our wedding – even on the wedding cake! Maple syrup, well I could drink it from a straw or through an IV. I can’t have the fake stuff – it has to be the real deal from New England!
I hope you enjoyed getting to know me today!!! Tell me… what’s one fun fact I should know about you?! Let me know in the comments below! 🙂
