For the Brides: How to Pick a Location for Your Engagement Session

The question that I get asked most is “Where should we do our engagement session?”. It can be overwhelming to find the perfect location on top of everything else you have going on in your mind about wedding planning. Well I’m going to make it a lot easier on you sharing how I help my brides  pick a spot that will be perfect.

I always start by asking my brides what they enjoy doing with their fiances. Are you a couple who loves adventures like hiking or camping? Are you a couple who enjoys picnics and fine wine? Do you love to be in nature? Go to the beach? Are you a sports fanatic? What are your hobbies that you enjoy together?

From there I can narrow down the different types of locations that would work best and usually give options. For example, I have a couple who got engaged on the beach but also loves flowers and gardens so we are starting at a park that has some beautiful flower gardens and then going to a beach close by. I also have a couple who loves picnics and playing board games together! So we are going to a park to set up a picnic and play a board game! I love being able to make each session personalized to each and every couple. It makes the moment more personable and usually helps the couple be less nervous during the session. I also enjoy being able to be in YOUR element so I can capture some candids that really show who you are as a couple and the love that brings you together.

For my own personal engagement session, I knew from the start that I wanted to have them done at the ocean on the beach. It’s my happy place and my husband is super laid back so he was going to go along with whatever I chose. We did them at sunset and it was perfect. So if you’ve always had a vision of where and how you want your engagement to be – even better!
